Sports Ethics Fellows

Each year the IIS selects a diverse group of individuals from various academic and athletic fields to serve as Sports Ethics Fellows. These outstanding individuals write and conduct research on the contemporary issues of ethics and sportsmanship in today's society and assist with the expansion and promotion of National Sportsmanship Day.

The 2001 Sports Ethics Fellows are:
  • Mia Hamm, member of the U.S. national soccer team and Washington Freedom of the Women’s United Soccer Association.
  • Sergei Fedorov, three-time All-Star with the Detroit Red Wings.
  • Lenny Krayzelburg, three-time gold medal U.S. Olympic swimmer.
  • Linda Bensel-Meyers, Director of Composition and Professor of English, University of Tennassee, Knoxville, TN.
  • Jon Ericson, an Ellis and Nelle Levitt Professor of Rhetoric and Communications Studies emeritus and former Provost at Drake University. He is the founder of The Drake Group, a national organization working to end the academic corruption in college sport, Des Moines, IA.
  • Lee Levison, Head of School, Kingswood Oxford School, West Hartford, CT.
  • Orby Moss, Athletic Director, Norfolk State University, Norfolk, VA.
  • Susan Petria, Health and Physical Education Educator, East Hartford, CT.
  • Marcia Sage, President & CEO, Sports Ethics Institute.
  • Robin Sheppard, Associate Athletic Director, Trinity College, Hartford, CT.
  • Murray Sperber, author of "Beer & Circus: How Big-time College Sports Is Crippling Undergraduate Education” and professor, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN.
