"I have heard two great commencement addresses in my life. Yours, and one delivered by Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan." David Esty, CEO, MarkeTeam Inc., in an e-mail to Mr. Doyle, following a commencement address delivered by Mr. Doyle. "Thank you for your ideas, your passion, your intent and your care when you visited Wittenberg last week. Your talk positively impacted so many scholar-athletes from talking to the students this past week and weekend. 'Competitive self-restraint,' being a 'social entrepreneur,' and 'a healthy pursuit of excellence versus a debilitating obsession to win' are some major ideas, along with many others, that I took away from your short visit and lecture. It's exciting for me to know that although it was such a short period of time, that I will hold on to these ideals for my entire life. Thank you for that impact." - Student Meghan Gaydos, in a note to Mr. Doyle following his speech at Wittenberg University. "Tonight was wonderful. Your deep knowledge and passion and sense of balance bring a fresh and honest perspective to a topic that often resorts to clichés and pure emotion. Your book will fill a huge need and help define the ways in which we think and act. Researchers often speak about changing paradigms. I believe that your work and the order you have brought to the chaos of athletics and parenting will set the parameters for conversations for years to come." - Dr. Lee Levison, Head of School at Kingswood-Oxford (CT), in an e-mail to Mr. Doyle following his speech to the Kingswood-Oxford School Parents Association. "You have motivated me to keep looking for the opportunity to make a difference. You are making a difference!" - Student Andy Mills, in a note to Mr. Doyle after his speech at Kenyon College. "You are a true Renaissance man, and your brilliant after-dinner speech at our annual William & Mary basketball awards banquet wonderfully reflected your many innovative ideas and creative vision. Our student-athletes, and all others in attendance, loved the speech." Rick Boyages, Head Men's Basketball Coach, The College of William & Mary. "Over the last few months I have been digging deep within myself to become a better leader/coach and produce better players/leaders. I am so relieved to find after listening to you that I am on the right track. That evening, I found myself thinking about my playing days at the University of Kentucky, and even my early junior tennis career. I went home and told my husband that I am going to purchase each and every book/article you have ever written." Coach Sheri Courter, in an e-mail to Mr. Doyle after a speech Mr. Doyle delivered at Ohio Wesleyan University. "I believe there are times in my life when I meet someone by chance and instantly realize that that person could have a great impact on my life. I believe that happened when I met you, and listened to your wonderful lecture." Coach Marianne Beshara, in an e-mail after Mr. Doyle delivered a speech at Wittenberg University. "The feedback about your address to the student athletes has been very positive. Athletes have told me that it is one of the best speeches they have every attended, and that you kept their attention throughout the evening address. It has also encouraged them to think about ethics and fair play in sports as athletes and spectators." Lynn Schweizer, chairperson, in a letter to Mr. Doyle after his lecture at Denison University. "I was very touched by your speech. You made many great points that I would like to incorporate into my daily life. Many of the points you made will help me in becoming the best captain I can be." Student Travis Schwab, in an e-mail to Mr. Doyle after his lecture/speech at Ohio Wesleyan University. "Your talk was superb and very well received. As a pediatrician with special interest in children's development and behavior, I found your talk to be an eloquent dissertation on the factors that enable sports to promote children's optimal development." - Dr. Paul Dworkin, Chief of Medicine at the Center for Continuing Medical Education/Hartford Hospital, in a note to Mr. Doyle following Mr. Doyle's lecture at Kingswood-Oxford School. "After several follow-up conversations with our student athletes and coaches, we had an overwhelmingly positive response to your presentation. You were able to convey a very important message in a way that engaged our students as well as coaches, and that is not an easy task." Douglas Zipp, athletic director, in a note to Mr. Doyle following Mr. Doyle's speech at Kenyon College. "We REALLY enjoyed your visit! Our coaches and student-athletes were very positively effected by your visit." Wendell Jack, athletic director, in a note to Mr. Doyle following Mr. Doyle's speech at Hiram College. Visiting professor, Donald "Dee" Rowe, in a letter to Mr. Doyle following Mr. Doyle's lecture at Middlebury College. "I have received more compliments on your commencement address than I have ever received on the previous seven graduations combined! "Your keynote address at the Closing Ceremonies of the 2001 World Scholar-Athlete Games was the finest speech I have ever heard. Many in our delegation made the same comment." Coach Ilan Kowalsky, 2001 World Scholar-Athlete Games basketball coach from Israel, in a letter to Mr. Doyle following his Closing Ceremonies speech. "Dan's easy and engaging style got all of our student-athletes, coaches, and administrators inspired about sportsmanship and talking about it--long after he left. If there is a legacy from his ten visits to our 10 college campuses, it is that the people who heard him have embraced his ideas about sportsmanship and will carry it from this day forward into the rest of their lives. That is exactly what we had hoped to accomplish with this program and I believe we were very successful in doing just that." Dennis Collins, Executive Director, North Coast Athletic Conference, in an e-mail following Mr. Doyle's 10-college NCAC lecture tour. "The students are still talking about the impressions you made on them during your remarks& the things you said really hit home for them. Thank you! I couldn't have asked for a better person to help us kick off a new era of Bates athletic celebrations. Thank you again for your graciousness and wisdom." Suzanne Coffey, Director of Athletics, Bates College, in a note to Mr. Doyle following his serving as master of ceremonies at the first annual Bates all-sports banquet.
