Bill Bradley’s Support
Senator Bill Bradley served as chair of the inaugural World Scholar-Athlete Games in 1993. Senator Bradley also delivered an extraordinary speech at the 1999 United States Scholar-Athlete Games, in which he was inducted into the International Scholar-Athlete Hall of Fame. At the January 1992 press conference in Washington, DC to announce the creation of the World Scholar-Athlete Games, Senator Bradley made the following statement: “I am extremely excited to be part of this initiative. This is a remarkable concept that will endure, and have a very favorable impact on the participants and even on international relations. I look at Dan Doyle’s idea as having the same potential as the International Special Olympics, which have become such a staple of what is good about sport. The World Scholar-Athlete Games will be looked upon in the same vein.” Click here to read Senator Bradley’s World Scholar-Athlete Games op-ed piece, which appeared in the New York Times on June 20, 1993.
