Hall of Fame Press is an in-house publishing initiative that will identify new and exciting talent who have something important to say about the world of sports. Based at the Institute’s headquarters at the University of Rhode Island, Hall of Fame Press will publish two to three books a year, tapping established authors to write about provocative topics, as well as new voices who are waiting to be heard.

Now celebrating its 21th year as a world-renowned sports education organization, the Institute for International Sport has access to some of the greatest writers and thinkers in sport. We believe the Institute is in a unique position to recognize new and important ideas about sports and, with its worldwide network of supporters, bring forth these ideas to a wide domestic and international audience.

The world of sports is so visually exciting, it’s sometimes easy to think that’s all there is. But at the Institute for International Sport, we know better. We know that great sports-themed writing in the genres of sports fiction, sports non-fiction and sports poetry can explore sports in a way that goes far deeper than mere visuals. A writer brings a perspective that, arguably, goes beyond the click of a camera’s shutter. The Institute believes in fostering good writing and spreading new ideas. Put the two together and you have Hall of Fame Press.

Our Game

On May 18, the Institute introduced Hall of Fame Press and its first publication, "Our Game: The Story of New England Basketball" by Bill Reynolds.

OUR GAME traces the fabled basketball past of the region, beginning with the early University of Rhode Island and Holy Cross teams that burst onto the national scene in the 1940s. In clear, captivating prose accompanied by compelling photographs, OUR GAME also recounts the emergence of small New England schools in major tournaments such as the NCAA and NIT and the creation of the powerful Big East Conference in 1979. New England's rise to national prominence was symbolized by the dual 2004 NCAA men's and women's championship teams from the University of Connecticut, which would have been unthinkable 25 years earlier. OUR GAME captures this all.

It is the first in-depth review of New England's still-growing basketball tradition. The Institute of International Sport, through its new in-house publishing venture, Hall of Fame Press, is pleased to be publishing this work.

Hall of Fame Press is also proud to announce an exciting 2008 publication!

  • A Red Sox Mystery! Hall of Fame Press will publish A Red Sox Mystery authored by acclaimed mystery novelist Mary-Ann Tirone Smith and her son Jere Smith. For Mary-Ann Tirone Smith, it will be her 11th book published since 1985 and will feature the return of Rocky Patel, a Boston homicide detective who appeared in her earlier novel She Smiled Sweetly. Jere Smith is a fourth-generation Red Sox fan and first-generation Red Sox blogger.
