15th Annual USA Today Sportsmanship Essay Contest Kingston, R.I. - The National Sportsmanship Day “Dare to Play Fair” program, founded and administered by the Institute for International Sport, (www.internationalsport.com) will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 4th by over 14,000 schools throughout the United States. Olympic Gold Medalist, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, will serve as Chair of the event. For the past 15 years, USA Today and the Institute for International Sport have co-sponsored an annual essay contest in support of this major sportsmanship initiative. As part of the celebration, students from elementary, middle and high schools, as well as colleges and universities, are invited to write essays of 500 words or less which address any aspect of ethics and sportsmanship in society, or share a personal reflection of exemplary or poor sportsmanship they have seen or experienced. USA Today will publish a selected essay from each student group as part of National Sportsmanship Day. The deadline for receiving the essay is February 27th.
