Sports Ethics Fellows

Each year the IIS selects a diverse group of individuals from various academic and athletic fields to serve as Sports Ethics Fellows. These outstanding individuals write and conduct research on the contemporary issues of ethics and sportsmanship in today's society and assist with the expansion and promotion of National Sportsmanship Day.

The 1998 Sports Ethics Fellows are:
  • Mills Lane , district judge of Reno, Nev. and internationally known boxing referee.
  • Bud Greenspan , world renowned Olympic cinematographer.
  • Billy Packer , CBS Sports commentator.
  • Eileen Angelini , Associate Professor of Foreign Languages and Director of the Foreign Language Program, Philadelphia University, PA.
  • Deidre Brennan , former assistant coach of the Irish National Women's Basketball Team, and professor of physical education, sport and leisure, University of Ulster, Joardnastown, Northern Ireland.
  • Sandra Dofflemyer , principal specialist for health, physical education & driver education, secondary instructional services, Virginia Department of Education, Richmond, Va.
  • Ken Dryden , president and general manager, Toronto Maple Leafs. Recently named as one of the Top 50 all-time great NHL Hockey players.
  • Joyce Harvey , physical education teacher, South Kingstown High School, S.Kingstown, RI
  • Bill Knapton , former head basketball coach, Beloit College, Beloit, Wis.
  • Mike Malec , professor of sociology, Boston College, Chestnut Hill, Mass.
  • Eamonn McCartan , chief executive, The Sports Council for Northern Ireland.
  • Ian Naismith , director, International Basketball Foundation, Chicago, Ill. and grandson of James Naismith, the inventor of Basketball.
  • Barbara Stevens , head women's basketball coach, Bentley College, Waltham, Mass.
  • Zan Taylor , chairperson for physical education and women's basketball coach, Fredrick Douglas Academy, New York, N.Y.
  • Craig Thompson , commisioner, Sun Belt Conference, Metairie, La.
