The Institute for International Sport Non-Violence Program

In 2008, The Institute for International Sport will launch a Non-Violence project that will involve Institute training of coaches and student-athletes regarding the perils of violence. At the core of the program will be imparting a clear non-violence/sport philosophy that the Institute is presently developing. The non-violence/sport philosophy will be a key element of Dan Doyle’s forthcoming The Master Coach Manual. The Master Coach Manual is being written with a number of important objectives, including helping coaches develop a coherent philosophy which they can impart to their student-athletes - a philosophy that encompasses a recognition that sport, at its best, can contribute to a positive and civil society.

The Institute’s Non-Violence Program will be launched through a series of pilot year activities in the State of Rhode Island, followed by a national roll out in 2009. The Institute is confident that the program will have a major impact in combating the culture of violence that has permeated many communities throughout the United States.

The Institute’s Non-Violence Program was inspired by Matt Doyle, son of Dan Doyle. On August 11, 2005, Matt was attacked in Chicago as he exited a fitness club.
