The Rhode Island Scholar-Athlete Games are fast approaching and we want you to be a part of this fun and exciting event. The 2008 RISAG will follow the highly successful format that was implemented last year. Scholar-athletes and scholar-artists, in Grades 2-8, from across the State of Rhode Island will gather on the University of Rhode Island campus the evening of June 13 and for a full day on June 14 to compete in sports, perform in the cultural arts, and challenge themselves academically.

THREE SPECIAL ADDITIONS!


Three extraordinary nights, all of which are included in the tuition package!

JUNE 11: All Rhode Island Scholar-Athlete Games participants are provided with a complimentary ticket to attend what will likely be the first public speech delivered by Senator George Mitchell since the release of the Mitchell Report. This event will be held at the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC).

  • Private reception for Senator Mitchell - 5:00-6:00 p.m. (If you are interested in attending the private reception, please contact Michael Payton at: mpayton@internationalsport.com; phone - 401-874-2168.) Please note there is an additional cost to attend this private reception.
  • 6:00-7:00 p.m. - Senator Mitchell speech
  • 7:00-8:15 p.m. - Special “carnival” in PPAC. The carnival activities will include celebrity autographs; three-point shot competition against Attorney General Patrick Lynch, a special Q&A with Dan Doyle, author of The Encyclopedia of Sports Parenting, a special Q&A with famed author Mary-Ann Tirone Smith, author of the forthcoming novel, "Dirty Water: A Red Sox Mystery" in collaboration with her son, Sox blogger Jere Smith, and other activities. The PPAC refreshment stand will be open during this period. Please keep an eye on this website for further details on what will be a tremendous evening of activities.
  • Ticket price for Senator Mitchell speech and carnival: Family members and friends (other than participant): $20 for adults; $15 for students 18 and under.

JULY 1: All participating Rhode Island Scholar-Athlete Games participants are provided with a complimentary ticket to attend the United States Scholar-Athlete Games keynote speech by General Colin Powell at 7:00 p.m. This event will be held at the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC).

  • Private Reception in honor of General Powell - 6:00-7:00 p.m. (If you are interested in attending the private reception, please contact Michael Payton at: mpayton@internationalsport.com; phone - 401-874-2168.) Please note there is an additional cost to attend this private reception.
  • Time of Speech 7:00-8:30 p.m. - General Powell delivers the United States Scholar-Athlete Games keynote address on leadership and American patriotism. The speech will include a Q&A.
  • Ticket price for family members and friends (other than participant): $20 for adults; $15 for students 18 and under.

  • JULY 4 UNITED STATES SCHOLAR-ATHLETE GAMES CLOSING CEREMONIES AT URI: All Rhode Island Scholar-Athlete Games participants receive a complimentary ticket to participate in the Closing Ceremonies of the 2008 United States Scholar-Athlete Games. All RISAG participants will be able to march into the arena with the USSAG participants. Full details on Closing Ceremonies, which will commence at 5:30 p.m. on July 4, will be provided during the Rhode Island Scholar-Athlete Games on June 13 and 14.
