THE HASSENFELD-HOGG CENTER FOR SPORTS LEADERSHIP

Breaking Ground
Dan Doyle, Senator Jack Revens, URI President Bob Carothers and URI Vice President Bob Weygand at groundbreaking ceremony.

The Hassenfeld-Hogg Center for Sports Leadership, presently under construction, will open in Spring, 2008. The building will be far more than bricks and mortar; it will be the base from which inspired leadership training will be offered to thousands of coaches, captains and other student-athletes throughout the world. The Program for Coaches

Dan Doyle has spoken at dozens of colleges and universities through the NCAA Foundation distinguished lecture series. At each school, Dan has administered leadership forums with coaches and student-athletes, and has conversed with both groups regarding their philosophy of leadership. As a result of his discussions with coaches, Dan is writing the "Master Coach Manual," which will be published in 2009.

A core element of the Master Coach Manual will be to help coaches develop a clear leadership philosophy that will assist them in reaching the Master Coach level and, in the process, will aid them in becoming significantly more effective as sports educators. The principles of leadership espoused in the Manual will be at the core of Center for Sports Leadership training of coaches.

The Coaches Training Seminar

The Coaches Training Seminar program will commence after the grand opening of the Center for Sports Leadership in Spring, 2008. Please keep an eye on this website for the dates and cost of these leadership seminars.

The Coaches Leadership Certification

The Coaches Leadership seminar program will include Center for Sports Leadership certification as a "Center for Sports Leadership Sports Education Leader."

Captain and Student-Athlete Leadership Training Seminars

The Captain and Student-Athlete Leadership Training seminars will be based on four important lists that Dan has developed and will be published in his forthcoming, "The Encyclopedia of Sports Parenting," and the "Master Coach Manual:"

  • The Five Leadership Areas for Non-Captains.
  • The 15 Leadership Goals for all Team Members.
  • The 21 Non-Negotiable Responsibilities of a Good Captain.
  • The 40 Enduring Characteristics of Good Leaders.

At the core of the captain and student-athlete leadership seminars will be providing the participants with clearly stated and valuable leadership concepts that can be utilized not only in their sports careers, but throughout life.

Creative Sessions

An important element of the coach and captain/student-athlete leadership forums will be creative sessions led by Dan Doyle. These sessions will incorporate creativity exercises developed by Dan to enhance one’s creative approach to leadership.

Intern/Sabbatical Fellow Program

The Hassenfeld-Hogg Center for Sports Leadership building will include six bedroom suites. The bedroom suites will be used for Institute for International Sport interns and sabbatical fellows. If you are interested in more information on the intern or sabbatical fellow program, please contact Chris Shea at: cshea@internationalsport.com or 401-874-7405. The first group of interns and sabbatical fellows will be welcomed in autumn 2008, upon completion of construction.
