FROM CHAIRMAN ALAN HASSENFELD
REGARDING 2011 WORLD SCHOLAR-ATHLETE GAMES TUITION
(WHICH INCLUDES PARTICIPATION IN THE 2011 WORLD YOUTH PEACE SUMMIT)

Dear Scholar-Athletes, Scholar-Artists and Family Members:

Thank you for your interest in the World Scholar-Athlete Games and World Youth Peace Summit.

Before setting the tuition price for the 2011 World Scholar-Athlete Games, which includes the World Youth Peace Summit, we undertake a series of important fundraising activities to reduce the price as much as possible. Like all colleges and universities and other tuition based educational organizations, we determine the actual per participant cost. For the 2011 World Scholar-Athlete Games / World Youth Peace Summit, the actual per participant cost is $4,100. We then go about raising funds to reduce the cost as much as possible – making it one of the most affordable and most extraordinary youth events in the world.

I am pleased to inform you that tuition for the 2011 World Scholar-Athlete Games / World Youth Peace Summit, which includes room and board and meals, is only $750.  There will be an opportunity to make an optional contribution of another $100 in May, 2011.  All those making the final – and optional – $100 payment (which will then total an $850 tuition) should be aware that this optional payment will go toward the opening and long-term administration of the Office of Social Entrepreneurship. Also be aware that there will be absolutely no pressure to make the optional payment of $100.

Our philosophy also includes the imperative concept that all participants take ownership of the honor of being selected to participate.  To this end, we expect all participants to contribute the “minimum tuition” of $750.

WHAT YOUR TUITION ENTITLES YOU TO

  • Dormitory accommodations at the University of Connecticut for nine days.
  • Nine days of meals. (Three meals per day with the exception of arrival and departure day. Dinner on arrival day and breakfast on departure day.)
  • A very attractive World Scholar-Athlete Games/World Youth Peace Summit apparel packet. The full details of the packet will be posted on this website in March, 2011. At all past Scholar-Athlete Games, the apparel packet has been one of the great features of attending the Games.
  • Prior to attending the Games, the opportunity to actively participate in the development of your Pathways to Peace project, through a well-planned "Pathways to Peace" program. (This program is optional but available to all World Scholar-Athlete Games participants).
  • The opportunity to be an important part of what General Colin Powell calls "One of the most compelling peace initiatives I have seen in years."
  • The opportunity to meet and get to know young people in your age range from virtually every country in the world.
  • The opportunity to be part of an historic launch of a world peace initiative that will endure for generations to come.
  • The opportunity to listen to some of the greatest speakers in the world. Past Scholar-Athlete Games speakers have included the likes of President Bill Clinton, Senator Bill Bradley, General Colin Powell, Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres, New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and many, many others. (Visit past speakers, www.internationalsport.com/wsag/pastSpeakers.cfm)
  • The opportunity to be part of a life-changing experience based on sport, the arts and a commitment to world peace.

TUITION AND SCHOLARSHIP

Acceptance to the 2011 World Scholar-Athlete Games/World Youth Peace Summit means that you have automatically received a scholarship in the sum of $3,350. I encourage you to visit the "Fundraising Ideas" section for ideas on how to raise the $750. (And, if you wish, the final $100 optional donation.) We like it when our participants do not rely merely on Mom, Dad or a family member, but actually work toward raising the minimum tuition, in this case $750.

I look forward to welcoming you to what I am confident will be judged the greatest youth event in history.

Sincerely,

Alan Hassenfeld
